Customers at Cummins Power Generation’s Kent facility are highly impressed by a C2750 D5B generator set’s ability to perform and conform.
Manston, Kent, England — Cummins Power Generation has demonstrated its new world-class C2750 D5B generator set to leading European engineering consultants and customers. Witness tests at Cummins’ Kent, UK factory have confirmed the product’s ability to hit key user-defined benchmarks, fulfil ISO 8528-5 G3 requirements for load acceptance, and even meet the standard for 100% load rejection.
The C2750 D5B 50 Hz generator set is pushing the boundaries for large manufacturing facilities, retail outlets and mission critical applications like medical facilities and data centres in global markets. It delivers 2750 kVA of power with less fuel, smaller footprint and greater power density thanks to its fuel-efficient 60-litre QSK60 engine. In order to reach this power node other generator set manufacturers use engines that have a higher displacement, making the C2750 D5B a cost-effective and efficient power generation solution in its class.
Customers and specifiers from countries across Europe, including Turkey, Germany, Switzerland and the UK, came to the Kent facility to witness the generator set being put through its paces, and to form their own view of its real-life performance. They came away impressed, as the generator set validated its capabilities and produced leading-edge performance test results.
Having witnessed the generator set in action, one visitor was so impressed they even changed their specification. “A customer who attended the test has used the opportunity to analyse their power node, upgrading it specifically to the power level for this generator set, as a direct result of observing the test,” reports Tom Farmer, Customer Support Manager, Mission Critical & Strategic Accounts.
Among the measurements visitors saw taken on the day were figures for voltage and frequency variation together with the recovery times when the generator was subjected to step loads of 25, 50, 75 and 100% – (typical customer witness test requirements) – for both load acceptance and load rejection. Whilst not in itself an ISO 8528-5 requirement, visitors additionally witnessed the generator go beyond compliance required for the G3 criteria even when subjected to a single step load of 50%.
The live tests were supplemented by an audio-visual presentation, a factory tour and augmented reality renderings of the generator set, which appeared on specially provided sales tools as visitors walked around. Cummins Field Service Engineer Dave Leach gave a presentation of the product’s QSK60 engine and other specialists were also on hand for detailed questioning. To end with, an evening dinner was hosted at nearby Leeds Castle.
